Driving to Banff

All major car rental companies (Avis, Rent-Rite, Budget, Dollar, Hertz, Tilden) have offices at the Calgary airport. Costs for a standard midsize car range in the neighbourhood of $ 60 a day or $250 per week, includes unlimited mileage. You have to calclulate also a park fee which every person entering the Banff National Park has to pay. The daily fee for adult is $5.00. Annual passes are available for $35. For more information, check the Banff National Park list of fees . The road is a major 4-lane highway and the driving time is approximately 1.5 hours.

On the left you see a map of the driving route.

If you are driving to Banff/Lake Louise, Highway #1 leads directly to the Rockies. The Trans Canada is a 4 lane divided highway from Calgary to the Sunshine Village access road and a major 2-4 lane highway to Lake Louise. The highway gains very little elevation from Calgary to Banff/Lake Louise and is a safe and scenic drive.
