The Department of Computer Science sponsors and organizes a number of outreach events, to generate an interest in Computer Science with elementary, high school, and university students, throughout the year. University Annual Student Events

Computer Science Career Fair

- February 9, 2010

Representatives from various IT companies are invited to meet with the students and give talks. It is a great opporunity for students to network and hand out resumes.

International Collegiate Programming Contest

- February 2010

The programming competition is an opportunity for programmers and problem solvers at all levels to come and test out their skills. Teams usually consist of 2 or 3 members - create a team on your own or come as an individual to be placed with a team. Levels of difficulty range from solving problems in pseudo-code (beginner) to advanced. All students, staff, and faculty are welcome!

Linux Bootcamp

September 12, 2009

To kick off a new academic year, the Computer Science Student Society(CSSS) organizes a Linux Bootcamp. The day starts with a beginner Linux session, followed by an intermediate and advanced session, and end with a short programming competition. Students will have an opportunity to meet with the new CSSS Execs, enjoy a pizza lunch, win prizes, tour the department and get their CSSS memberships.

High School Annual Student Events

Experience US!

- October 15&16, 2009

This two-days event is intended to assist students in learning about disciplines that they may be interested in pursuing at the U of S. Students interested in Computer Science will learn what to expect from a degree in Computer Science at this interactive session. Check out demos and see the Computer Science facilities. Hear from presenters and participate in a workshop. Experience US! is coordinated with the U of S Student Enrolment Services Divison.

Spotlight on Careers

- November 2009

This presentation, in coordination with high school Spotlight on Careers week, gives students as an overview of careers in Computer Science. Spotlight on Careers is coordinated with the U of S College of Arts & Science.

On Campus Day

- February 26, 2010

On Campus Day is a high school student's opportunity to experience "a day in the life of a Computer Science student." They will attend a mock lecture and learn about many of the exciting areas of Computer Science. They will also participate in a mock lab where they can gain some hands on experience. On Campus Day is coordinated with the U of S Student Enrolment Services Divison.

Digitized Conference

Digitized is a one-day career conference, held at the University of Saskatchewan, for Saskatchewan high school students that presents Innovations & Career Opportunities in I.T. (Information Technology). Digitized is coordinated with the Saskatoon Industry Education Council.

I.G.N.I.T.E. Summer Camp

- July 2010

IGNITE (IGNiting Interest in Technology and Engineering) is a 3-day Camp for Aboriginal youth. The youth will have an opportunity to gain hands-on learning experience in science and technology. IGNITE is coordinated with IBM Canada and the Saskatoon Indian & Métis Friendship Centre.
