Computer Science 865 (Detailed Information)

General Description of the Course

The purpose of CMPT 865 is to provide an in-depth understanding of selected topics in parallel and distributed systems. This offering will focus on Time-Sensitive Networking. The course will be in seminar format. Papers will be discussed on three topics: Multimedia Protocols, Sensor Networks, and Network Games.

Dwight is generally accessible by email, but only for specific questions that cannot be answered on WebCT. For in-person help it is best to make an appointment, though I am often in my office.

A tentative topic outline is as follows:

Multicore Architectures and Communication
Duration: 3 weeks.
Sensor Networks
Duration: 3 weeks
Network Games
Duration: 3 weeks
Multimedia Protocols
Duration: 3 weeks

Evaluation

 

There will be 2 projects, regular paper presentations, and paper summaries.

The weightings are as follows:

Materials

There is no textbook for this course. Readings will be from current journal and conference publications.

 

Facilities

Students will be using the Linux machines in the Spinks laboratory to do most of their work, and are expected to be familiar with the use of these facilities.
