The 1st Workshop on
May 1st, 1999 In conjunction with ACM SIGMETRICS 99 and FCRC '99 (Federated Computing Research Conference) Atlanta Hilton and Towers Hotel Sponsored by ACM SIGMETRICS with Support from IBM Research The complexity of computer systems, networks and applications, as well as the advancements in computer technology, continue to grow at a rapid pace. Mathematical methods and analysis are playing an important role in research studies to investigate fundamental issues/tradeoffs at the core of real design/performance problems in order to impact the design and implementation of complex computer systems, networks and applications. The Workshop on MAthematical (performance) Modeling and Analysis (MAMA 99) seeks to bring together researchers working on the mathematical, methodological and theoretical aspects of performance analysis, modeling and optimization. It is intended to provide a forum for talks on early research in the more mathematical areas of performance analysis. These talks will be based on very recent research results (including work in progress) or on new research results that will be otherwise submitted only to a journal (or recently have been submitted to a journal). Thus, part of the goal is to complement and supplement the Sigmetrics program with such talks without removing any theoretical contributions from the program. This year's workshop is currently scheduled to include talks on research by Ed Coffman, Nick Duffield, David Gamarnik, Erol Gelenbe, Ulrich Herzog, John Lewis, Zhen Liu, Philippe Robert, Raymond Russell, Perwez Shahabuddin, Mark Squillante, Sasha Stolyar, Don Towsley, David Yao, Li Zhang, ... The workshop agenda will include time for informal technical discussions among the speakers and attendees. |
