CALL FOR PAPERS

ACM SIGMETRICS '99

International Conference on Measurement and Modeling of Computer Systems

May 1-4, 1999

Atlanta, Georgia, USA

Sponsored by ACM SIGMETRICS

Workshops and Tutorials: May 1

Conference: May 2 - 4

In Conjunction with ACM FCRC '99

THEME

The ACM SIGMETRICS conference solicits superior work in the development and application of state-of-the-art, broadly-applicable analytic, simulation, and measurement-based performance evaluation techniques. The papers that will be most highly ranked by the program committee are those that further the state-of-the-art in performance evaluation methods, or those that creatively apply previously developed methods to understand or to gain important insights into key design trade-offs in complex computer/communication systems.

Topics of interest include, but are not restricted to:

This year we are particularly soliciting papers that apply performance evaluation methods to design issues in new and important areas, such as: Internet performance, Web server performance, Web caching architectures, electronic commerce, active networks, and real-time systems.

We are also, for the first time, soliciting paper abstracts for an Industrial Experiences track at the conference. These papers should contain interesting applications of performance evaluation methods in the context of computer/communication system product design and development. Papers that advance the state-of-the-art in evaluation methods or that creatively apply methods to more traditional computer/communication system design issues are also solicited.

Further information about ACM Sigmetrics'99 is available from http://www.cs.usask.ca/faculty/carey/sigmetrics99.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Papers:

Original papers, in English, should not exceed 20 double-spaced pages, including figures, tables, and references. Such papers should be reasonably expected to fit in 10 proceedings pages when typeset in double-column format. Papers must be submitted in printable Postscript form via the Internet. Instructions for submissions (via WIMPE) are available at http://www.cs.usask.ca/faculty/carey/sigmetrics99.

All submissions will be reviewed using a double-blind process. All author identification information, including self-references, should be removed from the paper prior to its submission.

Industrial Experiences:

One-page abstracts are sought describing the successful application of performance evaluation techniques in the context of computer/communication system product design and development. These submissions will be reviewed by a subset of the program committee, and need not be blind submissions. If interest warrants, a half-day session on industrial experiences is planned, running in parallel with the technical paper sessions. Send submissions to the Program Chair, by the submission deadline.

Tutorials:

As in previous years, a set of tutorials will be held immediately preceding the symposium. Due to the limited meeting room availability at ACM FCRC'99, a reduced set of tutorials is likely this year. Send proposals of 1-2 pages for 90-minute and 3-hour tutorials to the Tutorials Chair. Please include proposed title, brief description of material, intended audience, assumed background of attendees, and the name(s), affiliation(s) and brief biography of speaker(s). The submission should indicate the level of the tutorial (introductory, intermediate, or advanced) and whether the material covered is applied or theoretical.

IMPORTANT DEADLINES

October 16, 1998 (noon CST): Submission of Papers, Industrial Experiences and Tutorial Proposals due. NOTE: A one-week extension to October 23 has been approved.

January 15, 1999: Notification of acceptance

February 15, 1999: Camera-ready copy due
