My current research interests involve the following:

Distributed Data Processing architectures and performance: Hadoop,
Network and OS Support for multi-player online games,
Information-centric networking,
Energy efficiency in mobile devices,
Multicore architectures and application performance,
Security and intrusion issues in wireless networks, especially mesh networks and sensor networks,
sensor networks in general,
web usage analysis, performance of web-based systems,
operating systems implementation issues, including distributed filesystems,
distributed data storage and retrieval.

Student Lifetime

My thesis from UBC in 1998 was entitled Design, Implementation, and Evaluation of a Continuous Media File-Server for High-Speed Networks. The major areas of research covered are: distributed systems, application-layer communication protocols, and multimedia systems. I continue to be interested in network and distributed applications for multimedia, and operating systems design.

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, I did my M. Sc. (actually, it was here at the University of Saskatchewan). My thesis was entitled Disk Caches in Distributed Systems, which was completed in August 1988.
