Today’s consumer has become accustomed to an ever expanding selection of products, and demands these products to be continuously available. Warehouses have shifted from a storage role to that of distribution. Warehouse management systems are one of the logistical tools necessary to meet this ever moving target of customer satisfaction.
Federated Co-operatives Limited (FCL) is in the initial
stages of implementing a new warehouse management system. This system will allow FCL to improve asset
utilization, productivity, and service levels.
These improvements will accomplished through:
·
Computer
controlled storage;
·
Application
of radio frequency, bar code and voice response technology;
·
Paperless
warehousing including electronic pick lists and truck loadout;
·
Applications
of EDI with advance ship notices
FCL’s first warehouse management implementation will be here in Saskatoon. This tour will provide you with an opportunity to observe FCL’s present operating procedures and to see the state of the art processes which will be implemented in the new system.
