Use of Graphical Information Systems in the
Petroleum and Agriculture Industry
The Federated
Co-operatives Limited (FCL) databases are filled with data that has a
geographic element. There are many applications for Graphical Information
Systems (GIS) that could be developed using this data such as reporting sales
data by Co-op store location on a map of Western Canada. The use of Graphical
Information Systems is in currently its elementary stages at FCL although a few
applications are in use. Wendy Welte from the Operations Research department
will present two GIS applications namely petroleum pricing maps and Saskatoon
petroleum sales using the ARC/VIEW software.
In addition, Dave
Spearin, president of Logistics Marketing Services Inc (LMS) and an expert in
the field of GIS, will present some analysis he has done for the agriculture
industry including trends in agricultural production and fertilizer use. More
