Maurice Elliott, M. Sc. Decision Insight Systems Inc. Calgary |
This talk will describe two mathematical optimization models that were used for almost ten years by Dom Petroleum Limited and Amoco Canada Petroleum Company to maximize their netbacks from the distribution of natural gas to direct sales markets via the Nova pipeline. The production physical and cost factors included in these models will be described, together with two instances where use of the models enabled Dome to avoid costly decisions. In addition to giving technical details, the talk will discuss the evolution of the political surrounding the use of the models, which ultimately led to their being discontinued by Amoco in late 1993.
