Crew-scheduling software is used to create operator assignments so as to increase labour productivity.
The task is the efficient utiliziation of labour during the peaked nature of weekday transit demand while generating a legal solution with the least cost. Rostering optimizes the use of operators on Saturdays and Sundays. These work assignments must adhere to the constraints of the agreement between the Union and The City of Calgary.
This presentation will give insights into how and why operator shifts are created. The benefits to both labour and management of 'humanizing' the assignments created will be highlighted.
