Abstract: The talk will summarise several ongoing projects in the lab, related to the use of peer-to-peer computing in the academic environment. The main issues addressed are ensuring trust and motivation for active participation in the community. We have approached these issues both theoretically (through exploring formal models f trust and reputation in peer-to-peer file sharing) as well as empirically (through persuasive interface design). Both approaches will be illustrated using Comtella, a peer-to-peer application developed at the lab for sharing computer science papers.
