Abstract

While IP services have been around for a while, Voice over IP (VoIP) has become the topic of choice for the telecommunications industry. This presentation will provide the history of IP based services at SaskTel and focus on SaskTel's implementation plans for VoIP.

About the speaker

As Chief Technology Officer, Mr. Wittal is responsible for the planning, engineering, and operation of SaskTel's advanced 100% digital telecommunications network, as well as its corporate information systems. Mr. Wittal also directs SaskTel's Research and Development activities and is responsible for SaskTel's Carrier Services Group who provide competitive wholesale communications services in Saskatchewan. Highlights in his career include: responsibility for the provisioning of the electronics for the SaskTel Broadband fibre optic network; providing technical guidance for Telecom Canada's first transcontinental fibre route; presenting seminars on fibre technology in the People's Republic of China; and being an on-site technical engineering consultant for the English Channel Tunnel transmission network.Mr. Wittal is a graduate from the University of Saskatchewan.
