She received a Ph.D. in Computational and Applied Mathematics from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in 1999. Her thesis work included creation of economical schemes for solving the Navier-Stokes equations. From July 2002 to July 2004, R. Marinova was a research scientist at Enabled Simulation & Optimization Software, Edmonton holding a NSERC Industrial Research Fellowship. Rossitza moved to Edmonton from Tokyo where she worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the National Aerospace Laboratory.

Before visiting Japan, Rossitza was an assistant professor at the Technical University of Varna and at the Varna Free University, Bulgaria. She also worked for a couple of months (1997-98) at the University of Nijmegen, the Netherlands.
