Access Email on cs.usask.ca from HomeEmail clients can be configured to talk securely with cs.usask.ca using TLS/SSL communication. This allows you to send and receive mail through cs.usask.ca regardless of where you are in the world. The first thing you will need is the UofS Certificate Authority. It is located here here on a link called Load U of S Certificate Authority. If you are using Mozilla or Thunderbird for email, simply visit the above link with Mozilla or Firefox (Firefox can set things up for Thunderbird) and you should be set to go. If you are using Mac OS X, you need to grab the certificate from above and add it to your X.509 Anchors as a trusted certificate. At this point you can turn on TLS/SSL in your email client, set cs.usask.ca as the "outgoing mail server", and away you go. Note that you may need to change the port from the usual port 25 to port 465 (which is where "secure smtp" lives). Changing to port 465 will also allow you to send mail from locations where outoing mail to port 25 is blocked by default (e.g. various airports around the world). |
