I already have (or wish to take) a number of courses from another university. What are the regulations with respect to how many courses can be taken at the other university?
A student can take a number of courses from another University if the Arts and Science Residency Regulations are met.
Residency Regulations require that students must complete from the University of Saskatchewan:
- at least one-half of the overall coursework required for their degree, including at least two-thirds of the senior credit units required (to the nearest multiple of 6 credit units),
- at least two-thirds of the coursework required in the student's major subject (to the nearest multiple of 6 credit units).
Students must meet all program requirements for the particular degree or certificate they are pursuing. This means that some students will have to complete more courses than the minimum number indicated above.
Students must meet the overall CPA and major CPA as described under Promotion and Graduation Standards.

I am planning to go over to BC for a year next year: which courses can I take at the UBC that I will be able to transfer towards my U of S degree?
If a student is planning to take some courses at another University, he/she will need to obtain permission and admission details from that University. The U. of S. Department of Computer Science faculty and staff can not help you in that process. However, if a student is interested in knowing whether they will receive credit from U. of S. for a particular course that they want to take at another institution, they need to first provide the following details to the Undergraduate Chair of the Department of Computer Science:
- Detailed course outline - Calendar description is useful but not sufficient.
- Pre-requisite requirements of the course – Title and calendar description for each pre-requisite course should be included.
- Where does the course fit into the CS program at the other institution – Which year of study does that course belong to? Is it an elective or a required course? Is it excluded from being part of a degree at the other institution?
- In the student’s estimation, which course at the U of S is equivalent to the course that he/she wants to take at another institution?
Submit all the above details to the Undergraduate Chair for the Department of Computer Science, and he/she will be able to let you know whether you will be able to get credit for the course towards your degree at the University of Saskatchewan or not.
