B. Sc. in Computing

The B.Sc. in Computing is intended for students who are committed to a focused specialty area of computing with less concern about a breadth of background in computer science.  By concentrating on a specialty, a student may be restricting future employment prospects somewhat.  This program satisfies most, but not all of the standards set for accredited Computer Science degrees by the Canadian Information Processing Society's (CIPS) Computer Science Accreditation Council (CSAC).

Students who anticipate seeking employment in the traditional computing fields are advised to pursue one of the accredited Computer Science degree programs (B.Sc. Four-year Computer Science, B.Sc. Honours Computer Science, or B.Sc. Honours Software Engineering). The accreditation standards ensure that a student has a strong, well-rounded background to move into a variety of employment fields or to go on to graduate school.

The main difference between this program and the Computer Science Four Year BSc is that the Computing degree has requirements restricting the choice of 300- and 400- level courses (apart from normal prerequisite requirements).  The Computer Science Four Year BSc requires courses to be taken in certain areas.
