Part of what I do outside school is sports and music. Actually, this is most of what I do outside school.
I curl with some young guys from Watrous at the Nutana Curling Club.
We won our league in 2005-2006, and finished second in 2006-2007. I put a team in the Blaine Lake Farmer's Bonspiel in 2007 and we ended up finishing 2nd in the C Event and got great prizes. We were 4th in the D Event in 2008, and are in the middle of the spiel again for 2009.So, the guys from Watrous have banished me from their team regularly, since they won the entire Nutana league championship in my absence and wanted to keep the championship team together. I have curled with them on occasion, substituting when needed, as in a Watrous spiel this winter.
In 2007, I formed a band with friends from church and church connections. We play either worship music, or covers from the times during which we grew up. Actually, we play quite a variety of music, including more recent stuff and some originals. You can see the details of the band at The Late Boomers. We picked the name because we're born at the end of the baby boom and we're starting kind of old for rock stars, hence...... well, you figure it out.
This is on hold as well until I return from sabbatical, but I'm looking forward to having fun with music. We're starting again, as of last week.
Here are a couple of pictures from the quite a while ago. The first is from a boating trip on the beautiful Shuswap lake with my red-hooded sweatshirt. I miss that shirt, because it was stolen from my car from underneath the Granville Bridge in Vancouver while I was at a Colin James concert , June 1998. Also stolen in that smash'n'grab was an hand-edited copy of my Ph. D. thesis, that had just had the final set of corrections suggested for submission to the external examiner.
This next picture is from a little earlier. This is at CASCON 1995,
the first major demonstration of the CMFS for wide
audiences.
Travel is something I've been fortunate to do. I have some pictures from trips
at the following links.
In October 2005, I was in Waikaloa, Hawaii for a conference. None of
the pictures are at the conference, but I was able to stay for a bit longer
and do some sightseeing.
The first set of pictures are from the first time I went to Hawaii.
HAWAII 2003
In the summer of 2005, I camped in Yellowstone and Yosemite National Parks
in the US. This is a sampling of some of the pictures.
YELLOWSTONE 2005
Finally, for now are the pictures from Hawaii, the big Island, in 2005.
HAWAII 2005
More from 2006 and 2007 to come.
Their lives touched many people in many areas of life. During the memorial
service, a powerpoint presentation
was shown that highlighted some memories of their lives and their
activities.

I've been involved in
Living Hope Church since I returned to Saskatoon.
Family
For those of you who know my family, you'll know that 2007 was a remarkably
traumatic year. In July, both of my parents were killed in a traffic
accident. There are just no words to describe this.
