New Faculty Welcome: Dr. Debajyoti Mondal

dr mondal

The Department of Computer Science would like to welcome our newest faculty member, Dr. Debajyoti Mondal.

Dr. Mondal joins us as an Assistant Professor at the University of Saskatchewan this year. Previously he worked as an NSERC Postdoctoral Fellow in the Cheriton School of Computer Science at the University of Waterloo, and as a research intern at Microsoft Research, Redmond, USA. He received his PhD and MSc degree from the University of Manitoba, and his B.Sc. engineering degree from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).

Along with Dr. Keil, Dr, Mondal will lead the new Visualization, Geometry, & Algorithms research group (VGA Lab). The VGA LAB aims to develop creative and useful data visualizations, e.g., interactive network layouts, cartographic representations, word clouds, metro maps etc. A major part of the visualization process is to map the abstract information to some geometric data for rendering, which inspires their research in computational geometry and algorithms. The mission of the LAB is to innovate tools and techniques that would empower individuals to use visualizations routinely to deal with big data.

Research Interests

  • Graph drawing and its applications in practical domains, e.g., network analysis and VLSI layout.
  • Information visualization including cartography and visual analytics of big data.
  • Computational geometry and topological aspects of graph theory.
  • Interdisciplinary research that integrates geometric concepts into software analysis, bioinformatics, and geographic routing.
