Banani joins us this spring as an Assistant Professor at the University of Saskatchewan. Dr. Roy closely works with the graduate, summer, and undergraduate students, and postdoctoral fellows in the Cloud-based Big Data Analytics for Crop Phenomics project (a.k.a P2IRC Project 3.1, a USask CFREF funded project). She has been developing and coordinating cloud-based collaborative frameworks and APIs for efficiently handling large sets of data for plant phenotyping data and software data. Dr. Roy is also part of the Global Water Futures Core Computer Science Team, a second USask CFREF funded project, where she plays a key role in migrating a legacy water security modelling system into a modern programming language and software engineering environment with a focus on a cloud-based architecture. Led by Professor Kevin Schneider, she was also able to secure a Compute Canada Resource Allocation Competition ($178,543.00) grant for the P2IRC project.
She worked previously as a Programmer Analyst, ICT, USask for almost three years as part of the University Research System (UnivRS) team. She received her Ph.D. in Engineering Interactive Systems from the Queen’s University under the supervision of Professor T.C. Nicholas (Nick) Graham and Professor Carl Gutwin (U of S), her MSc. in Software Systems Engineering from Aachen University of Technology (RWTH Aachen), and a B.Sc. in Computer Science and Engineering from Khulna University. She worked as a faculty member at the Computer Science and Engineering Department of one of the top technical Universities in Bangladesh, the Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET). Her background has provided her research and teaching experience at five different organizations in three different countries. She also received several awards including a Queen’s Graduate Scholarship and the highly competitive Ontario Graduate Scholarship in Science and Technology (OGSST).
