Week of November 11, 1996
Topic 1: Software Evaluation
- I am currently examining Flex Molecular Modelling Software. It looks like it will be a useful tool for our research. To wit, Flex can be used to display complex molecules at various temperatures. Molecules can be rotated. Several different viewing strategies can be used to emphasize primary or secondary structures as needed. Futhermore, the input files hereto are in text format (a format which I have not yet had time to elucidate).
- Flex is installed on:
Flex Software . Try running the programs in /fvr/lp/molbio/flex/minidemo on Sparkle.
- I will defer any further comment about this software until I have determined its complete benefit and operation.
Topic 2: My Research for the next couple of months
- I am learning some hard-core organic chemistry and biochemistry. This will take some time, but will be well worth the effort!
- I will not refer to this learning effort in subsequent log entries. Rather, if I am busied exclusively with this, the log entry for the week will appear as * NOTHING NEW * under this topic
- (I prefer not to be distracted from this research until I am finished to my satisfaction (unless there is a very good reason for the distraction (e.g. rush to submit NSERCs, etc.)))
