Colour in Computer Vision

Despite the fact that colour enhances the visual world of humans, very little has been known about its exact nature and role in the human visual system. The approach taken by us is to analyze the problem using physical principles and mathematics. The goal, however, is not to understand the human visual system, but is to understand how to build a useful colour computer vision system. All visual processes can in practice perform with or without the colour information. How to use colour and why to use colour are the two central problems we are addressing at the present time.

One type of research done in this area is Colour Image Segmentation. Experimental results from this work are very encouraging.
