Scholarship Writing Workshop

Kim MacKay is sharing her wealth of knowledge and experience to help you get more scholarships!

What can you do to improve your scholarship application? This talk will help you understand the evaluation process to better structure your application and increase your chances of success. Specifically, we will address how the scoring criteria used for Tri-Council scholarships can be utilized to more effectively communicate your accomplishments and expertise. The concepts presented in this talk will draw from practical experiences writing and reviewing Tri-Council scholarship applications. Overall, these concepts will be useful for structuring both existing and future applications.

This session is targeted mainly at graduate students, but undergraduate students are also welcome to attend.

Kimberly MacKay is a PhD student in the Department of Computer Science (Bioinformatics Lab). She is supervised by Dr. Anthony Kusalik. Previously, she obtained a B.Sc. in Biochemistry and a M.Sc. in Computer Science from the University of Saskatchewan. Kim has been extremely successful in her scholarship applications. Most significantly, she was awarded a Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship in 2016. For the past three years she has also been a member of the College of Graduate Studies and Research NSERC Sub-Committee where she reviewed NSERC applications for both local and national competitions.
